My weakness. His Power.

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

Sometimes it's so easy to feel like a failure when life doesn't line up the way you think it should. In the past couple months Steve and I have been dealt a handful of cards that easily could cause stress, frustration, anger and self pity. My need for control tends to take over rather quickly and a continuous stream of 'What If's', 'Should haves' and 'Could haves' flood my mind and ultimately deplete my trust in God.

We all have standards for ourselves, standards that if we achieve them we will be the perfect wife (or husband), the perfect friend, the perfect mom (or dad), the perfect designer or teacher, the perfect 'fill in the blank'... These standards are usually unrealistic and unattainable thus setting us up for inevitable disappointment in life and in ourselves. Luckily, as I am slowing learning... there is freedom from this.

As life continues on, it's important to realize that we weren't created to be 'perfect', we were created to depend on our creator! To let our weaknesses display his power. To trust that in life, our God is the only thing that is truly 100% dependable and faithful and if we can let go of our need to control and trust that His grace IS sufficient, His faithfulness WILL shine through no matter what our circumstance.

Back to reality!

Well Christmas has come and gone. The cheerful auro that filled the air has been replaced by bitter cold. These last couple days have been extremely cold, down to almost -50 below or something crazy like that with windshield. Steve lucked out and got an extra 2 days of vacation out of the deal, and I was fortunate enough to be able to work from home on Monday.

Christmas this year was packed full of family gatherings and activities. It's always a good time, but it goes by too fast. We spent Christmas Eve with my (Kaia) family, Christmas day with Steve's and the weekend following down in Iowa with Steve's Aunt and Uncle Bonnie and Bernie, cousins and sister Beth.

It seems overwhelming to try and re-cap the last couple weeks (let alone the last few months we haven't been blogging) But know that we are well and blessed. God has been challenging us both to take big steps in faith and I look forward to the growth this year will bring.

Its August Already?

Where has the summer gone. I can't believe it is August already. This summer seems to have flown by.

I have been spending a lot of time in my classroom already trying to get prepped for the beginning of the year. I feel confident about the start of the year, but know there are a lot of things I don't know. It is hard to know what to expect as I approach my first day of class and this entire year. I have had nothing but support from my friends and pulled every string I have with my teaching friends to glean as much knowledge from them as possible before the start of the year.

Kaia and I have had a busy summer. It feels like we have had things going on just about every night and every weekend. The highlight of our summer was definitely our anniversary weekend. We took a few days off of work and explored some new spots around the Twin Cities. We had dinner at a few new restaurants and even caught a Twins game. By far the best spot we ate was at the Nook in St. Paul. Not much to look at when you walk in the door, but probably one of the best burgers in town. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

We just got back from central Iowa where we celebrated the marriage of one of my cousins. It was a fast weekend but we had a great time seeing our extended family. My highlight was talking with my uncle who is also a band director and gaining some valuable nuggets of information from him as I get ready for the year.

I'm super excited for all that is to come and all of the adventures that are just around the corner.

Stay tuned...
